President Dr. Muizzu concludes landmark visit to U.S. after attending UNGA79

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu returned to the Maldives today after completing a significant visit to the United States for the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

During the visit, President Dr. Muizzu delivered a landmark address at the UNGA’s General Debate, where he highlighted the Maldives' key global priorities.

He also became the first Maldivian President to speak at the UN Security Council, a notable achievement 59 years after the country joined the UN.

Throughout his time in New York, the President took part in a range of high-profile engagements:

Co-chaired the side event "Building Resilient Futures: The Global SIDS Debt Sustainability Support Service"

- Delivered a speech at the Plenary Segment of the Summit of the Future at the UN General Assembly Hall

- Spoke at the Maldives' side event, "Building Productive Capacities in Small Island Developing States (SIDS)"

- Co-chaired the Summit of the Future’s "Interactive Dialogue 3: Towards a Common Digital Future"

- Addressed the High-level Meeting on Sea Level Rise during the UNGA79 High-Level Week

- Gave a speech at Princeton University's School of Public and International Affairs

- Visited Google’s headquarters, focusing on technology and innovation

President Dr. Muizzu’s first appearance at the UNGA as Head of State coincided with the 59th anniversary of the Maldives' membership in the UN.

He was accompanied by a high-level delegation for this important visit.
