Maldives and Palestine strengthen ties, pushes for global Ceasefire cooperation

On the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly, His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu met with His Excellency Dr. Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine.

During the meeting, President Abbas delivered a heartfelt appeal to the international community, stating, "We are asking for a ceasefire because we are also human," urging global collaboration and support to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.

As of October 7th, 2023, the death toll in Gaza has tragically risen to over 41,430 lives lost.

President Dr. Muizzu reaffirmed the Maldives' steadfast and unwavering support for Palestine, expressing his hope that the Palestinian people would soon attain all their rightful entitlements.

He pledged that the Maldives would continue to secure international recognition of Palestine as an independent nation.

In response, President Abbas expressed his deep gratitude for the Maldives' long-standing solidarity, saying, "We are always aware of the Maldives' support for the Palestinian people, and we deeply appreciate your unwavering solidarity."

The two leaders also explored opportunities for further cooperation between their nations and discussed ways to strengthen their diplomatic relations.

The meeting concluded with both presidents reaffirming their commitment to working together, emphasizing their shared values, and pledging to strengthen the bond between the Maldives and Palestine in the years to come.
