The Maldives Customs Service has successfully intercepted over nine kilograms of illicit drugs smuggled into the country through air transport, following two separate incidents.

The first case occurred on September 16th, when a 65-year-old Maldivian man arriving from Sri Lanka was found carrying 349 grams of heroin in his possession.

Two days later, on September 18th, customs officials uncovered suspicious items during the inspection of air cargo and postal packages. The subsequent investigation revealed 582 grams of synthetic cathinone, 5,210 grams of cannabis, and 2,870 grams of ecstasy.

Preliminary testing of the seized substances confirmed the presence of four different types of drugs, with the total amount reaching 9.01 kilograms.

Authorities continue to investigate both incidents as part of their efforts to crack down on drug smuggling into the Maldives.
