Islamic Ministry to fund religious programs run by NGOs
Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has announced that the Maldives government will begin providing financial assistance to religious and social NGOs conducting religious programs across the country.
The decision was revealed during the annual meeting of religious and social organizations held at the Islamic Center this morning.
Addressing the attendees, Minister Shaheem highlighted the importance of collaboration between the Ministry and NGOs in promoting Islamic education and religious practices.
He emphasized that funding will primarily be directed toward programs that teach religious practices, such as how to perform salat, along with other smaller projects. "We will provide all possible assistance for programs and small projects, especially those that will make people familiar with prayer," he added.
I assure you that in the future, the Ministry will provide financial assistance toward various efforts by NGOs as far as possible
Minister Shaheem stated
Dr. Shaheem also noted that the Maldives is approaching 900 years since its conversion to Islam, and is currently facing unprecedented intellectual and social challenges.
He stressed that the preservation of religious unity and the authentic Islamic identity of the Maldives cannot be achieved by the government alone, but requires the cooperation of NGOs, scholars, and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
Efforts to protect the authentic Islamic faith of Maldives, maintain religious unity, and preserve the Islamic personality of the country can only be accomplished through strong cooperation between Islamic social work organizations, scholars working in religious da'wah, and the Ministry,
Minister Shaheem stated
The Islamic Minister also highlighted that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision includes providing support to organizations engaged in spreading Islam.
Agreements will be established with NGOs to ensure future collaboration and financial support from the Ministry.
The ongoing annual meeting, attended by 98 participants representing 70 organizations both in person and online, reflects the strong commitment of the Islamic Ministry to work with NGOs in promoting religious education and activities across the country.
