Seychelles Ministry of Transport delegation visits Velana International Airport

A delegation from the Seychelles Ministry of Transport, led by Minister Anthony Derjacques, visited Velana International Airport (VIA) on Thursday.

The delegation's primary focus was to gather knowledge and experience that could assist in the development of Seychelles' airport infrastructure.

The delegation comprised senior officials from the Ministry of Transport and the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority.

During their visit, they held discussions with the management of the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), represented by Deputy Minister of Transport Mohamed Aflah and Senior Political Director Muaz Rashid.

Honorary Consul of Maldives to Seychelles, Mohammed Firag, also participated in the discussions.

According to a statement from MACL, the Seychelles delegation expressed their interest in understanding the challenges faced by the Maldives during the completion of the extensive Velana International Airport development project.

Their goal is to apply these insights to the development of Seychelles’ own airport.

Mr. Anthony Derjacques, and accompanied by Deputy Minister Mohamed Aflah.The delegation engaged in discussions with our Deputy Managing Director Mujthaba Latheef, Mohamed Lam’aan, and our expert teams to gain insights into the development of Velana International Airport.

The discussions also touched on the broader vision of island nations like the Maldives in constructing such an advanced airport.

Both parties shared ideas and strategies aimed at accelerating the progress of VIA’s ongoing developments.

During their visit, the Seychelles delegation toured the newly completed facilities of the airport, observed the operations of various sections, and inspected the new terminal currently under development along with other related projects.

The visit marks an important step in fostering collaboration between the Maldives and Seychelles in the field of aviation and infrastructure development.
