Minister Zameer applauds India’s G20 role in boosting global cooperation
Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer praised India's leadership during its G20 presidency, highlighting the positive influence it had on both G20 member states and the Global South.
Speaking at the Foreign Ministers’ Session of the Third Voice of the Global South Summit today, convened virtually by the Indian government, Minister Zameer emphasized the importance of India’s initiatives, which have significantly benefited developing nations.
In his remarks, Minister Zameer also addressed the challenges posed by debt obligations, particularly for Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
He stressed the urgency for multilateral frameworks that can provide better access to concessional financing and debt relief, crucial for sustainable development and resilience building.
Minister Zameer further underscored the need for climate justice and equitable access to digital tools, which are essential for redefining the development paths of the Global South.
He concluded by advocating for enhanced South-South and triangular cooperation to accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Voice of Global South Summit, initiated by India during its G20 presidency, provides a platform for non-G20 countries, particularly from the Global South, to engage in thematic discussions at the ministerial level.
The session was chaired by India's Minister of External Affairs, Dr. S. Jaishankar, and included participation from several nations across different regions.
