India’s External Affairs Minister Jaishankar wraps up successful visit to Maldives
Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, India’s Foreign Minister, returned to India today following a productive three-day official visit to the Maldives from 9-11 August.
Jaishankar arrived in the Maldives last Friday and met with President Dr. Muizzu to discuss a range of bilateral issues.
During his visit, Jaishankar also held discussions with Maldivian Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer to review the ongoing bilateral cooperation between the two nations and met with Defence Minister Ghassan Maumoon, discussed on critical importance of maintaining regional peace and stability.
Significant highlights of the visit included the inauguration of projects funded under the High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP) and the Line of Credit Facility from the Exim Bank of India.
Jaishankar’s agenda included the inauguration of water and sanitation projects across 28 Maldivian islands, as well as the Addu Reclamation and Shore Protection Projects.
Additionally, he visited the Greater Malé Connectivity Project site and met with opposition party MDP President Abdulla Shahid.
The visit also featured interactions with the Indian community in the Maldives.
This visit marked Jaishankar’s first official trip to the Maldives since his reappointment as Foreign Minister in June, and is anticipated to further strengthen the bilateral relationship between India and the Maldives.
