India-funded Addu reclamation and link road project handed over
The completion and handover of the Addu City Reclamation and Shore Protection Project, alongside the inauguration of the 4-Lane Detour Link Road, were celebrated today.
The completion ceremony was graced by prominent figures, including India's Minister of External Affairs, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Moosa Zameer and Minister of Construction and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdullah Muthalib
This milestone, part of the broader Addu Development Project, was financed through an USD 800 million Line of Credit from the EXIM Bank of India under the Government of India's purview.
The reclamation effort, spanning 184.3 hectares, includes significant expansions in Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, and Maradhoo-Feydhoo, and the creation of three tourism islands.
The project also features 7 kilometers of rock revetment and 4.1 kilometers of Geotube revetment to safeguard coastal areas and newly reclaimed lands.
Notably, the artificial beach developed in Hithadhoo Zone 2 is now the longest in the Maldives.
The newly inaugurated 1.463-kilometer, 4-Lane Detour Link Road will enhance connectivity between Hithadhoo, Gaukede, and Maradhoo, bolstering the transportation network of Addu City.
