Maldivian Government Condemns Israeli Gaza School Attack, Urges Global Action
Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released a statement on behalf of the Government of Maldives strongly condemning the Israeli bombing of Gaza's Al-Tabi’in School, which killed at least 93 displaced Palestinians.
Videos of the aftermath reveal numerous bodies and witnesses report no prior warning of the attack.
This strike, the fifth on a Gaza school by Israel's military since last Sunday, violates international law and UN Security Council Resolution 2610.
Gaza Civil Defense reported that people were attending dawn prayers at the Al-Tabi’in compound in the Al-Daraj neighborhood, eastern Gaza City, when it was struck overnight into Saturday.
A Palestinian national and chair of the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor accuses Israel of falsely labeling civilians as fighters to justify the massacre.
Israel confirmed the strike, claiming Hamas was present at the site.
UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese criticized Israel's actions as a form of genocide against Palestinians, stating “genociding the Palestinians one neighborhood at the time, one hospital at the time, one school at the time, one refugee camp at the time, one ‘safe zone’ at the time.”
Maldives urges the international community to act decisively to stop these attacks and work towards lasting peace for Palestine.
Gaza’s Ministry of Health reports 39,790 Palestinian deaths and 92,002 injuries from Israeli actions.
By early July, almost 2 million people, nearly the entire population of Gaza, had been displaced, according to UN figures.
Maldives remains steadfast in supporting the Palestinian right to self-determination and statehood.
