Indian External Affairs Minister set to visit Maldives tomorrow
Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar is scheduled to visit the Maldives tomorrow as part of a three-day official trip, according to a statement from the Maldivian Foreign Ministry.
The visit comes at the invitation of Maldivian Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer and marks the first official visit by an Indian minister to the Maldives since President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu took office in last year November.
During his stay, Jaishankar will meet with President Dr. Muizzu to discuss enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries.
He will also engage in talks with Foreign Minister Zameer on strengthening cooperation in various sectors.
The visit will include the inauguration of completed projects under the High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP) and the Exim Bank of India's Line of Credit Facility.
Additionally, several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed in the fields of training and business.
Jaishankar's visit is seen as a significant step in revitalizing Maldives-India relations, which have experienced some strain in recent months.
This visit follows Foreign Minister Zameer's recent official trip to India and President Dr. Muizzu's attendance at Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony for his third term in early June.
