Maldives Immigration to deport six migrants after Male’ city fight
Maldives Immigration has announced the deportation of six migrants involved in a violent altercation in Male’ City.
In a post made on social media platform 'X' last night, Maldives Immigration stated that six migrants were handed over to their custody by the Maldives Police Service following a fight in Male' City.
The migrants' visas will be canceled, and they will be deported.
The authority shared photos and ages of the migrants, all men aged between 26 and 40, but did not disclose their names or nationalities.
According to the police, the individuals involved in the fight were from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The fight, which took place on Asrafee Magu, was reported to the police at 12:33 am on Thursday.
A video of the incident shows at least six men attacking each other with batons.
Two migrants sustained injuries in the fight and were treated at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) before being discharged.
Initially, five migrants were arrested in connection with the case but were later released, prompting criticism on social media.
The police had assured that the case remains under investigation.
