Japan grants USD 1 Million to Maldives for human resource development scholarships

The Government of Japan has extended a grant aid of 161 million Japanese Yen (approximately 1.02 million USD) to the Maldives under the Japanese Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS).

This funding will continue to provide scholarship opportunities for Maldivian students in the fiscal year 2024.

The Exchange of Notes for this grant aid was signed today at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The agreement was formalized by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Moosa Zameer, and the Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives, Ms. Takeuchi Midori.

The grant will fund six scholarships for Maldivian students, continuing a project initiated by the Government of Japan in August 2020.

The initiative aims to promote human resource development in the Maldives by providing advanced educational opportunities.

The signing ceremony was attended by prominent officials, including the Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, Dr. Maryam Mariya, and senior representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, Ministry of Finance, the Civil Service Commission, the Embassy of Japan, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

This partnership highlights the ongoing commitment of both nations to enhancing educational and developmental opportunities for the people of the Maldives.
