13 Billion rufiyaa owed to state remains uncollected; will recover these funds: President Dr. Muizzu

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that 13 billion rufiyaa owed to the state through various means remains uncollected, and that the  government has begun efforts to recover these funds.

Speaking at  ceremony held held last night, regarding the 59 th Independence Day , President Dr. Muizzu said that previous governments had left billions of rufiyaa owed to the state uncollected.

 President Dr. Muizzu shared details of this amount.

According to him, when this government took office, there was 513 million dollars in unpaid land rent, 102 million dollars in unpaid TGST, 3.3 billion rufiyaa in unpaid GST, and 1 billion rufiyaa in uncollected corporate income tax.

President Dr. Muizzu said that recovering this money alone would solve the country's debt problem.

He said that as part of the ongoing efforts, many parties have started paying after letters were sent, and even within the past week, some of this money has been paid.

Even if we recover this money alone, our debt problem is solved. We will work on it. God willing, we will recover that money. We have already started the work. Many parties have already started paying. When we sent the letter, they started paying.

President Dr.Muizzu said

President Dr. Muizzu said that if the government need to go to court to recover this money, they will do that as well.

However, he expressed confidence that even without going to that extent, they can recover half of this amount.

Additionally, President Dr. Muizzu said that they will also recover the money owed to the state from MMPRC and other corruptions that took place previously, and that they will not be afraid to do so.

During his speech, President Dr. Muizzu also stated that an Asset Recovery Act will be introduced to recover funds owed to the state.

He also emphasized that eradicating corruption is crucial for strengthening the country's economy and establishing a system of good governance in the Maldives.
