In a decisive move following Parliament’s recommendation, President Dr.  Muizzu has removed Ali Hashim from his position as Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

The call for Hashim’s removal was spearheaded by Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim.

The motion was presented on the grounds that the Governor had not effectively fulfilled his responsibilities.

Parliament subsequently passed the motion with a clear majority, securing 63 votes in favor of Hashim’s dismissal.

The President’s Office has confirmed that the removal has been executed, and President Dr Muizzu has now proposed Ahmed Munawar as the new Governor of the MMA.

Munawar, who previously served as Minister of Finance, is currently an Advisor to the Minister of Finance.

The proposal for Munawar’s appointment has now been sent for parliament review.

His nomination marks a significant shift in leadership at the MMA, aiming to bring new direction and effectiveness to the authority's governance.
