In an impressive performance at the ongoing 19th National Swimming Competition in Singapore, Meral Ayn Latheef has renewed the national record for the women's long course 100m butterfly event, clocking in at 01:13.96

Meral also held the previous record for the event.

Meral's former record of 01:13.99 was set at the 19th Asian Games held in China in 2023.

Earlier this year, she also broke multiple national records in February at the Midfield and Street County Qualifier in England, including the short course 50m, 100m, and 200m butterfly events, as well as the 200m medley event.

At just 15 years old, Meral is now setting her sights on qualifying for the Olympics.

The previous record for the 100m butterfly, set by Aishath Sausan at the 9th South Asian Federation Games in 2004, stood at 01:21.81 for 18 years before Meral's recent achievement.
