President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu returned to Male’ on Tuesday morning, concluding his official visit to India.

The President traveled to New Delhi on Saturday at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend his inauguration for a third consecutive term.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi on Sunday evening.

During his visit, President Muizzu attended a banquet hosted by Indian President Droupadi Murmu in honor of the visiting dignitaries.

In addition to attending the banquet, President Dr Muizzu held a meeting with President Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday, where they discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation between the Maldives and India.

Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar also called on President Dr Muizzu during his stay.

Accompanied by a high-level delegation of government officials, this visit marked President Dr Muizzu's first trip to India since assuming office on November 17, 2023.

The visit comes at a critical time, following recent tensions between the Maldives and New Delhi.

President Dr Muizzu had previously called for the withdrawal of Indian troops from the Maldives, and there were incidents where three deputy ministers made disparaging comments about Prime Minister Modi and India on social media.

Despite these challenges, President Dr Muizzu's visit is seen as a step towards mending relations and reinforcing the partnership between the two nations.
