Maldivian media delegation departs for training visit to Pakistan
A ten-member media delegation from the Maldives, including broadcasters and editors, departed for Pakistan today on an eight-day training and exposure visit from June 3-10, 2024.
The group comprises members of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC), Maldives Media Council (MMC), and prominent journalists.
The training in Islamabad will cover various topics such as media management, ethics, laws, policies, social media impact, fake news, data protection, cultural barriers, and creative content production.
Delegates will also visit media houses and government institutions to gain practical experience and knowledge.
During a meeting with the delegation on June 2, Vice Admiral (R) Muhammad Fayyaz Gilani, High Commissioner of Pakistan, expressed his pleasure in facilitating the visit.
He emphasized the importance of professional journalism training to combat fake news and hate speech, and highlighted ongoing efforts in capacity building between the Pakistan High Commission and the Government of Maldives.
Mr. Zulqurnain Ahmad, Deputy Head of Mission at the Pakistan High Commission, welcomed the delegates and briefed them on the visit's program.
Presidents of MBC and MMC, Ms. Maryam Waheeda and Mr. Ahmed Musthafa, respectively, thanked the High Commissioner for the opportunity and stressed the importance of continuous professional development for media professionals.
