President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu officially welcomed Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during the Prime Minister’s state visit to the Maldives.

Prime Minister Anwar arrived in Malé on Monday night at the invitation of President Dr. Muizzu.

He was received upon arrival by the President and members of the Cabinet.

The official welcoming ceremony was held at Republic Square in Malé City.

At Izzuddin Jetty, President Dr. Muizzu greeted the visiting leader, who was welcomed with a cultural performance by Maldivian school students.

The two leaders then proceeded to the saluting dais, where a 21-gun salute was presented.

The national anthems of the Maldives and Malaysia were subsequently played, followed by the presentation of host and visiting dignitaries.

During the visit, Prime Minister Anwar is scheduled to hold official talks with President Dr. Muizzu.

Discussions are expected to cover bilateral relations, cooperation in the international arena, and opportunities to expand ties across multiple sectors.

The leaders are also expected to witness the signing of memoranda of understanding in several key areas, with the agreements aimed at further strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla, and Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam are also scheduled to pay separate courtesy calls on the Malaysian Prime Minister.

The Maldives and Malaysia have maintained diplomatic relations for 58 years.

Their partnership includes strong people-to-people ties, high-level exchanges, and continued cooperation in various areas of development.
