President Dr. Muizzu nominates Abdul Raheem Abdulla for Speaker, Ahmed Nazim for Deputy Speaker of 20th Parliament

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has nominated his Special Advisor and MP-Elect for the Fonadhoo constituency, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, for the position of Parliament Speaker in the upcoming 20th People's Majlis.

Additionally, MP-Elect for the Dhiggaru constituency, Ahmed Nazim, has been nominated for the post of Deputy Speaker.

The President made these nominations during a meeting with MP-Elects from the People's National Congress (PNC) held today at the President's Official Residence, Muleeaage.

The MP-Elects unanimously agreed to support the President's nominations.

Abdul Raheem Abdulla, who has been a prominent leader of the PPM/PNC alliance over the past five years, also serves as President Muizzu's special advisor.

Ahmed Nazim, nominated as Deputy Speaker, previously held the Deputy Speaker position in the 18th Parliament and has served in various high-ranking government positions.

Heena Waleed, the President's Office Spokesperson, stated that during the meeting, President Muizzu proposed a list of individuals he wishes to nominate for various parliamentary posts as the leader of PNC. Along with the nominations for Speaker and Deputy Speaker, the following positions were proposed:

Parliamentary Group (PG) Leader:

- MP-Elect for Inguraidhoo, Ibrahim Falah

Senior Deputy PG Leader:

- MP-Elect for Baarah, Ibrahim Shujau

Deputy PG Leaders:

- MP-Elect for Vilimale', Mohamed Ismail

- MP-Elect for Mahibadhoo, Ahmed Thoriq

- MP-Elect for Hulhudhoo, Mohamed Shahid

The 93 new Members of Parliament are scheduled to take their oath of office on May 28.

The 20th Parliament will feature a supermajority for the ruling PNC, opposition MDP securing only 12 seats.
