Villa College hosts vibrant celebration for International Chinese Language Day

Villa College on Tuesday hosted a lively event to commemorate International Chinese Language Day, with esteemed guests including Dr. Mariyam Mariya, Minister of Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development accompanied by other Ministers and Senior Staff of Villa College and the Chinese Ambassador H.E Wang Lixin in attendance.

The event, held at Villa College, saw a vibrant showcase of Chinese language learning and cultural exchange.

At the event, Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development Dr. Maryam Mariya emphasized the importance of nurturing language skills alongside the promotion of mother tongue languages.

She highlighted the pivotal role language plays in today's globalized world and underscored the need for accessible resources for language education.

Chinese Ambassador Wang Lixin praised the growing enthusiasm for learning Chinese among Maldivian students, acknowledging the language's role in fostering cultural understanding and cooperation.

She expressed her pleasure at the increasing interest in Chinese language and culture, emphasizing the significance of bilateral exchanges between the Maldives and China.

The enthusiasm of Maldivian people to learn Chinese keeps rising, continuously driving the 'Chinese Enthusiasm' to heat up. By learning Chinese, Maldivian people witness and experience China's development by eyes and ears, and communicate with Chinese people face to face, and tell wonderful Chinese stories and China-Maldives friendly cooperation stories to the world

The event showcased mesmerizing Chinese cultural presentations, including a live demonstration of Chinese calligraphy by skilled students from Villa International High School and Iskandhar School.

The Chinese Language Learning Centre at Villa College, along with traditional Chinese equipment, was also highlighted during the event, demonstrating its role in promoting Chinese language education and cultural exchange.

The celebration of International Chinese Language Day at Villa College not only celebrates linguistic diversity but also strengthens the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the Maldives and China.
