Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has secured contracts to construct hospitals in three islands: N. Manadhoo, M. Muli, and R. Alifushi.

The agreements were formalized on Saturday by MTCC’s CEO, Abdulla Ziyad.

According to the Health Ministry, MTCC is tasked with building 50-bed hospitals in Manadhoo and Muli, with a project value of MVR 185 million.

The completion deadline for these projects is set at two years.

The decision to undertake these projects stemmed from the need to replace or repair damaged hospitals on these islands.

In R. Alifushi, a 30-bed hospital project valued at MVR 128 million has been initiated, with MTCC given 730 days to complete construction.

The government's rationale for this endeavor is to address citizens' complaints about the distance to the regional hospital in Ungoofaaru, Raa Atoll.

Each of the three hospitals is planned to include flu clinics and isolation facilities to ensure continuous operations during health emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additionally, a solar PV system will be installed in each hospital to reduce electricity costs, while piped oxygen, medical air, and suction facilities will be provided at each bed.

The Health Ministry emphasized that the construction of these new hospitals represents a concerted effort by the government to enhance healthcare services in the Atolls, ensuring better access to medical care for residents.
