The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will hold its national congress from October 1 to 3 after postponing the event originally scheduled for September 19 to 21.

Speaking at a press conference on the upcoming congress, MDP Deputy Chairperson Ibrahim Waheed said the initial dates had to be changed after the party faced difficulties finding a suitable venue.

The party has now decided to hold the three-day congress at the Malé City Council hall after being unable to secure a more suitable location.

Deputy Chairperson Mohamed Shifaz said the national congress, which is held once every five years, provides an important opportunity for the party to make major changes to its constitution.

This year's congress will also introduce an investment forum, marking a departure from previous congresses.

The session will bring together MDP-affiliated councilors from islands where the party holds a majority to discuss potential investment opportunities.

According to Shifaz, the forum will focus on identifying ways to attract investment for development projects in the councils' respective jurisdictions.

The congress is expected to serve as a key platform for reviewing the party's internal framework while also addressing development and investment priorities at the local level.
