In a campaign rally for the upcoming Parliament elections, former Maldivian President and advisor to the opposition party MDP, Solih, criticized the current administration's actions against opposition politicians.

Solih's remarks came in response to the recent summoning of MDP chairperson Fayyaz Ismail to the Police over alleged corruption within the RDC.

Solih asserted that the administration's decision to target politicians indicates a lack of alternatives and political maneuverability.

He emphasized that resorting to summoning politicians for investigation on baseless grounds demonstrates a failure on the part of the administration to explore other options.

Despite these actions, Solih affirmed that MDP would not be deterred.

If they are doing so to stop us, then we have to say sorry. Sorry. Sorry. But that would not happen

remarked Solih

Prior to this incident, Solih had expressed concerns when Fayyaz was initially summoned to the police.

Fayyaz revealed in a social media post that he was being investigated for allegedly benefiting financially from misappropriated funds within the RDC.

Solih condemned the administration's actions as a resurgence of past injustices, warning against the erosion of democratic institutions.

He cautioned that targeting political leaders could escalate to include judges, police commissioners, and the suppression of public associations.

Solih's comments highlight growing tensions between the opposition and the current administration, as political maneuvering intensifies in the lead-up to the Parliament elections.
