Gasim Ibrahim, the leader of the Jumhoori Party (JP), has voiced strong concerns over the refusal to approve ministers appointed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

Gasim emphasized that such efforts to deny approval would prove detrimental to the well-being of the Maldives, suggesting that self-interest might be at the core of these refusals.

Gasim specifically criticized the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and The democrats for their stance on rejecting ministerial approvals.

He asserted that MDP's electoral defeat was a consequence of losing the trust of the citizens and questioned the need to further undermine the public's decision by refusing approval for the appointed ministers.

He pointed out that historical practices of selecting and approving cabinets had proven effective, and there was no justification for obstructing the approval process for the current cabinet.

Expressing his dissatisfaction with the refusal of ministers, Gasim underlined the crucial economic conditions facing the Maldives.

He argued that in light of the country's economic challenges, it was imperative for parliament to grant approval to all ministers without delay.

"Parliament needs to grant approval to all ministers today. Unless you do so, if you instead decide to disregard the people's decision, there is no need for your parties to go to the public tomorrow, seeking votes," Gasim asserted, urging fellow parliamentarians to prioritize the nation's interests over political differences.

Gasim, a former coalition member with the MDP government, highlighted ongoing positive relations with the current government despite the lack of a formal coalition.
