Concerns have risen regarding foreign fishing activities in Maldivian waters, prompting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's vision for heightened monitoring by the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), according to Minister of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy, Thoriq Ibrahim.

Speaking at an opening of rescue divers training program in GDh. Madaveli yesterday, Minister Thoriq emphasized the necessity of monitoring the Maldivian seas to protect the rights of Maldivian fishermen, anticipating positive changes for the fishing industry.

"Maldivian seas must be properly monitored, as they have been exploited by other countries due to the lack of oversight. Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's vision is to expand MNDF surveillance over the seas, aiming to reclaim lost territories for our fishermen," said Minister Thoriq.

He further expressed confidence in recovering lost areas, highlighting that, despite previous permissions for foreign surveillance under the former presidency, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's approach is to conduct such surveys exclusively through MNDF.

The proactive measures are expected to safeguard the interests of local fishermen and reclaim Maldivian seas for the benefit of the domestic fishing industry."
