India's largest domestic and international airline, IndiGo, has denied rumors that tourists are canceling many bookings to visit Maldives.

India has launched a social media campaign calling for people to visit Lakshadweep instead of Maldives.

A senior official of IndiGo said that there are no cancellations of ticket bookings and hotel bookings made by the country, according   to an Indian news  WION.

Without giving further details, the official said a statement would be issued if necessary.

India is the largest tourist destination in Maldives and IndiGo is one of the largest flight operator between India and Maldives. The airline also launched flights from Hyderabad to Male last October due to increased demand from Indian tourists.

Three  Maldivian deputy ministers have insulted Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he shared photos of his visit to Lakshadweep, which resulted in calls for a  boycott of Maldives  on social media.

With that, 10,500 hotel bookings and 5,520 flight bookings have been cancelled, according to some Indian newspapers and social media accounts. However, that, has not been confirmed by any official agency so far.
