Nasheed to Yameen: Instead of running for election we both must work together
Speaker for the People's Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed, has called out to the leader of the opposition's Progressive Congress Coalition to find a way to work together instead of them both competing in the presidential elections.
He stated this whilst speaking at the ceremony held last night in Ghiyasuddin school to commemorate the occasion of the formation of "The Democrats" party.
Nasheed stated that the citizens have something to ask of the leaders of the opposition parties, PPM PNC coalition, MMP, MRM and Jumhooree Party.
"The Maldivian citizens have been clearly saying that they dislike this way. They dislike President Solih's regime." Nasheed stated.
Hence, Nasheed stated that the responsibility of the opposition parties leaders is to find another way for the citizens.
"If we are are political leaders, and preaching as leaders forming political parties, then we have a responsibility. I have to give way. PPM PNC as well as other parties must also give way." Nasheed stated.
He further stated that after giving way, they would be able to find the way that the citizens want the most by sitting down together at a table and discussing about it.
Nasheed highlighted that it was unacceptable for President Yameen to be imprisoned and described him as a person who has contributed to numerous services.
"I believe that we both should not run for this election and instead should work together to fulfill the way that the citizens want." Nasheed stated whilst ending his speech.
