A prominent banner had been placed outside the residence of Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, expressing dissent towards the sale of Maldivian territorial waters.
A significant rally concerning the Chagos dispute is currently being organized by the "Etihad Against Selling Territorial Waters" group, scheduled to take place on Friday. The protest asserts that a portion of Maldivian territorial waters was sold during the dispute.
In addition to organizing the aforementioned rally, the opposition has initiated a petition addressed to the Mauritius government and other relevant parties, expressing the Maldives' non-acceptance of the decision reached by ITLOS (International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea) regarding the Chagos dispute.
Banners promoting the upcoming rally scheduled for Friday has been strategically positioned throughout the city of Malé.
The opposition's rally stands as one of the biggest events organized by Etihad, aimed at opposing the sale of territorial waters. Nonetheless, Qasim Ibrahim, the esteemed leader of the Jumhooree Party (JP), has advised party members against partaking in this particular rally.
