Former Attorney General Mohamed Munnavaru has stated that the planned venue for the press conference on the Chagos Archipelago, involving several political parties and former Attorney Generals, was abruptly withdrawn at the last minute, resulting in the relocation of the event to a different location.

Mohamed Munnavaru has disclosed that the Manhattan Business Hall was initially selected as the venue for the Chagos Archipelago press conference. However, he received notification at 1:30 pm today that the venue would not be made available for the event. This sudden and unexpected development necessitated the relocation of the press conference to an alternative location.

The customary location for the press conference is the private residence of Mohamed Muizz, the former Housing Minister and current Mayor of Male' City, named Dhimyaath.

A multitude of political parties, including the opposition parties Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), People’s Nationals Congress (PNC), and Maldives National Party (MNP), as well as the government coalition parties Jumhooree Party (JP) and Maldives Reform Movement (MRM), participated in the press conference held today. Additionally, there was involvement from Former President Nasheed’s faction.

Dr. Mohamed Munnavaru and former Attorney General Aishath Azima Shukoor led the press conference, while former Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon and Former President Mohamed Nasheed were represented by Hussain Amru, the former Managing Director of STO. Other participants included Ahmed Shiyam, Vice President of PPM, Ibrahim Shujau, Vice President of PNC, Aiminath Nadhiea, Vice President of MTM, and Ali Hussain, the Jumhooree Party member of the Kendhoo constituency.

This is the first time that multiple political parties had convened a conference in opposition to a government decision. The participating parties declared that this united opposition was a national action.
