According to Home Minister Imran Abdulla, the living conditions of prisoners who are deemed to be in good condition lives a  comparatively better life than the accommodations provided for Atoll police officers.

During a ceremony held to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Maldives Police Service, Minister Imran highlighted that being a police officer entails experiencing a range of emotions every minute of every day. He also emphasized that the role demands a high level of responsibility, which involves modifying one's lifestyle, communication style, and conduct to meet the expectations of the profession.

Imran underscored that the fundamental expectation of any society is the assurance of safety and security for their lives, property, and well-being. He further emphasized that this responsibility lies with the uniformed police officers in the society.

He expressed that in recent days, he had visited police officers stationed on various islands and was saddened by the substandard living conditions that he observed.

“The living conditions of some police officers are worse than those of prisoners who are kept in decent conditions. Despite this, it is admirable to witness that these challenges do not hinder their dedication and commitment to serving their duties, which deserves greater recognition and appreciation."

Minister Imran further asserted that the police structure had disintegrated, and the leadership had become feeble by November 2018. He emphasized that the prevalence of terror and horror had become widespread within the police ranks.

“President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's ascension to power was driven by the recognition of the stark reality that the police force had lost its dignity and respect. His administration embarked on an agenda to restore the public's trust, respect, and affection towards the police by strengthening the deteriorated structure of the force and instilling hope in disheartened officers. Together with the police force, the government initiated a journey towards the restoration of peace. In the past four years and five months, significant strides have been made in this journey, and the end is now within sight.”

Minister Imran expressed his deep appreciation for the efforts made by President Solih in the past four years to restore the police force's dignity and respect.

In conclusion, Minister Imran reiterated a crucial message that has been reiterated time and time again - while the police may not be able to catch all criminals, it is imperative that no innocent person is unjustly harmed by law enforcement. He emphasized that continuous efforts should be made to uphold this principle, as the actions of a few rogue officers can easily damage the entire police force's reputation and image.
