Leader of Jumhooree Party Qasim Ibrahim

Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP), Qasim Ibrahim has decided to run for the upcoming presidential elections held in September.

This was finalized in the 151th council meeting of the party held yesterday.

They resolved to compete by making a coalition with JP taking lead This decision was passed unanimously by JP’s council.

Speaking after the decision had been made, Qasim stated that the decision to face for election was not a reason to separate from the coalition. And that those in jobs will remain till 11th of this year’s November.

“We are a part of the government’s coalition. Till the five years are up on November 11th we will keep moving forward. Those in jobs will also remain till that date. What I want to say is that this is how it is in the agreement.”

In addition to this, Qasim stated that a candidate being produced from JP was not a reason for the coalition to fall apart either and this can be clearly seen from the agreement.

“According to the agreement JP wasn’t exempt from producing their own candidate for 2023. This is known clearly and precisely.”

Despite Qasim stating as such, incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that if a party in the coalition competes in the presidential election, then that party will have to separate from the coalition.

The members who support him have also been stating the same.
