MACL opens new passenger lounge area at Velana International Airport
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has opened a new passenger rest and service area at Terminal 1 of Velana International Airport, expanding available facilities and improving comfort for travelers departing from the Maldives.
The newly developed space, located on the first floor of Terminal 1, adds approximately 750 square meters of additional seating capacity.
The area features a variety of seating arrangements designed to provide passengers with a more comfortable space while waiting for flights.
The facility also includes a dedicated 136-square-meter children’s play area aimed at improving the airport experience for families.
The children’s zone features multi-level play structures, woven mesh tunnels, climbing equipment, and a ball pit, providing a safer and more engaging environment for young travelers.
A new banking service facility operated by Bank of Maldives has also been introduced within the area.
The service provides passengers with access to foreign exchange facilities and USD issuance services for Maldivian citizens.
The opening forms part of MACL’s continued efforts to modernize Terminal 1 and enhance passenger services at Velana International Airport.
The company said the expansion reflects its focus on developing more inclusive, efficient, and passenger-centered airport facilities.
The latest addition comes as Velana International Airport continues to expand its infrastructure and services to accommodate growing passenger demand and provide improved travel experiences for both domestic and international visitors.
