Maldives has welcomed 1,229,419 tourists so far this year, despite a slight decline in visitor arrivals compared with the same period in 2025, according to the latest figures released by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.

The total represents a 4.5 percent decrease from the 1,287,850 arrivals recorded during the corresponding period last year.

However, the ministry said tourism is showing signs of recovery after disruptions caused by the temporary suspension of flights by several airlines during the Middle East conflict.

July arrivals have also remained relatively stable.

As of the latest reporting period, the Maldives recorded 159,537 visitors for the month, down 1.3 percent from the 161,766 arrivals registered during the same period last year.

The ministry attributed the overall decline to reduced air connectivity following the suspension of services by several international airlines.

With those carriers now resuming operations, tourist arrivals have begun to rebound.

Maldives is currently welcoming an average of 5,911 visitors each day.

China remains the country's largest source market with 210,109 arrivals, followed by Russia with 175,814.

The United Kingdom ranks third with 96,179 visitors, while Italy and Germany complete the top five source markets with 78,982 and 75,550 arrivals, respectively.

Most visitors continued to arrive by air, with 1,213,842 tourists entering the Maldives through the country's airports.

Velana International Airport handled the overwhelming majority of arrivals, receiving 1,199,442 passengers, while Gan International Airport recorded the second-highest total with 4,475 arrivals.

The government continues to promote the tourism sector as it works toward maintaining growth through the remainder of the year.

After welcoming a record 2.2 million tourists in 2025, the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation has expressed confidence that total arrivals this year will reach at least the same level.
