Maldives, India advance Free Trade Agreement talks
Maldives and India have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral economic ties following high-level discussions focused on the proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and broader trade cooperation.
According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, Minister Mohamed Saeed met with India's Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, during his official visit to India.
The meeting centered on advancing negotiations for the Maldives-India Free Trade Agreement while exploring new opportunities to expand economic collaboration between the two countries.
We held productive and constructive discussions on advancing the Maldives–India economic partnership, including the ongoing negotiations on the India–Maldives Free Trade Agreement, the finalisation of the Bilateral Investment Treaty, and several new initiatives to strengthen trade, investment and economic cooperation between our two countries,

The discussions also covered progress on the Bilateral Investment Treaty and a range of initiatives aimed at boosting trade, investment, and long-term economic cooperation.
The meeting reflects ongoing efforts by both governments to deepen commercial relations and strengthen their economic partnership.

Minister Saeed described the discussions as productive and expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended during his visit.
