Six arrested over suspected plan to carry out assaults in Malé and Hulhumalé
Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into a suspected plan to carry out violent assaults in Malé and Hulhumalé, following an intelligence-led operation.
Authorities stated that the operation was initiated after receiving credible information regarding a planned attack.
Acting on a court-issued warrant, police searched a guesthouse in Raiyverigodhamagu and the surrounding area, where six individuals were taken into custody.
All six suspects are Maldivian males aged between 21 and 34.
The arrests were made last Thursday during the coordinated search operation.
During the raid, officers recovered a folding knife and MVR 39,695 in cash, which were seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
The suspects were subsequently presented before the court for remand hearings.
Four individuals were ordered to be held in custody for 15 days, while the remaining two were released under specific conditions.
Police confirmed that investigations are continuing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the alleged plot.
