Maldives Police Service has signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) with the United States Department of Homeland Security to strengthen bilateral cooperation and enhance efforts to combat transnational crime.

According to police, the agreement was signed between the Maldives Police Service and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, a division of the Department of Homeland Security.

The MoU is aimed at improving cooperation between the two agencies in addressing transnational criminal activity and reinforcing law enforcement ties between the Maldives and the United States.

The agreement was signed on behalf of Homeland Security Investigations by Regional Attaché Earl Mattia, while Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed signed on behalf of the Maldives Police Service.

Under the framework of the MoU, both sides will engage in consultations, facilitate the exchange of information, and cooperate in efforts to investigate and prevent transnational crimes.

Police said the agreement is expected to strengthen public safety and security, improve investigative capacity, and enhance the joint response to transnational criminal activity and emerging security threats.

The signing marks a further step in the Maldives Police Service’s efforts to build international partnerships aimed at addressing increasingly complex cross-border crimes and security challenges.
