Man arrested in Hinnavaru drug trafficking operation
A man has been arrested in Lh. Hinnavaru following a police operation targeting the alleged trafficking of illegal narcotics into the island.
According to the Maldives Police Service, the operation was carried out jointly by officers from the Hinnavaru Police Station and the Counter Narcotics Intelligence department based on intelligence received by authorities.
The suspect, identified as Mohamed Andhaz Ahmed, 39, was taken into custody on June 3 after being intercepted near the island's harbour and ATM area.
Police said a search conducted during the operation led to the discovery of two plastic bags containing substances suspected to be illegal drugs.
The seized material had a combined weight of approximately 189.5 grams.
Following his arrest, the suspect was brought before the court, which ordered him to be remanded in custody for five days pending further investigation.
Police confirmed that investigations into the case are continuing.
