More than 80,000 tourists from the United Kingdom have visited the Maldives so far this year, making the UK the country's third-largest source market for tourist arrivals, according to the latest figures released by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.

Statistics show that 80,580 visitors from the United Kingdom had travelled to the Maldives as of 2 June.

China remains the leading source market with 144,931 arrivals, followed by Russia with 126,712 visitors.

The United Kingdom ranks third among the country's top tourism markets this year.

A total of 951,222 tourists have visited the Maldives so far in 2026.

While this represents a 4.1 percent decrease compared to the 992,225 arrivals recorded during the same period last year, recent figures indicate signs of recovery.

Tourist arrivals were affected by disruptions linked to the conflict in the Middle East, which impacted international travel and flight operations.

However, visitor numbers have been improving in recent weeks, with more than 139,000 tourists arriving in May alone, a 3 percent increase compared to the same month last year.

Resorts continued to account for the largest share of visitors, hosting more than 600,000 tourists.

Guesthouses welcomed over 200,000 visitors, while hotels accommodated more than 22,000 travellers.

The latest figures highlight the continued importance of key international markets and the sector's gradual recovery following recent global travel disruptions.
