Expatriate fight at Artificial Beach under investigation
Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into a violent altercation involving a group of expatriates at the Artificial Beach area in Malé after footage of the incident circulated widely on social media.
Police confirmed they are aware of the video and have begun looking into the matter.
Although no formal complaint has been filed, authorities stated that the incident involves suspected criminal conduct and therefore warrants investigation under existing legal procedures.
The footage shows a large group of expatriates engaged in a physical confrontation, with individuals seen exchanging punches and kicks in a public area.
Police have not yet disclosed details regarding the cause of the altercation or whether any arrests have been made.
The incident has renewed concerns over public order at Artificial Beach, where reports of violence and behaviour deemed inconsistent with public social norms have become increasingly common in recent years.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing and that appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law.
