Maldives and Japan explore new football development partnership
The Maldivian Ambassador to Japan, Ahmed Mahloof, has held high-level discussions with senior officials of the Japan Football Association aimed at strengthening cooperation in football development between the two countries.
The meeting took place in Japan and included talks with JFA President Tsuneyasu Miyamoto, a former captain of the Japanese national football team.
Discussions focused on potential technical assistance and collaborative opportunities to support the development of football in the Maldives.
Both sides also explored ways to strengthen ties between the football associations of the Maldives and Japan, with particular attention given to expanding cooperation in football, futsal, and beach football development.

Japan has long been regarded as one of the Maldives’ key development partners, contributing to numerous infrastructure and sports-related initiatives over the years.
During the meeting, Ambassador Mahloof expressed appreciation for Japan’s continued support and acknowledged the importance of the longstanding partnership between the two nations.
The discussions also highlighted opportunities for future collaboration aimed at enhancing sporting standards and creating new pathways for athlete development in the Maldives.
