The Health Protection Agency has revealed that five additional suspected measles cases are currently under investigation, while more than 128 contacts linked to confirmed and suspected infections have been identified.

Health authorities are continuing extensive surveillance and containment efforts as part of measures to prevent further spread of the virus.

According to the agency, individuals suspected of carrying the infection have been advised to remain in isolation until laboratory confirmation is completed.

The HPA has also urged people experiencing symptoms such as fever, red skin rashes, or cold-like illness to avoid public spaces and large gatherings as a precautionary measure.

Officials further advised members of the public to seek immediate medical care if fever is accompanied by the development of a rash.

Patients visiting healthcare facilities with such symptoms are also required to wear face masks to minimise the risk of transmitting the disease to others.

The HPA stated that detailed case investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of infections, while contact tracing operations are being carried out to identify and monitor individuals who may have been exposed to the virus.

The agency reiterated that vaccination remains the most effective method of protection against measles and plays a critical role in reducing severe illness and complications associated with the disease.
