Maldives expresses solidarity with China after deadly Shanxi mine explosion

The Maldives has conveyed its solidarity with China following a deadly coal mine explosion in Shanxi Province that has resulted in significant loss of life.

President Mohamed Muizzu extended his deepest condolences to Chinese President Xi Jinping in an official message issued after the incident at the Liushenyu Coal Mine.

In his message, President Muizzu expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy, which has left dozens dead and many others injured.

On behalf of the Maldivian government and its people, he conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the families who have lost their loved ones.

The President reaffirmed the Maldives’ unwavering support and solidarity with China during this period of mourning, offering words of comfort to those affected and the wider community grappling with the aftermath.

He also expressed hope for the success of ongoing rescue and recovery operations being carried out by Chinese authorities at the site.

The explosion, which occurred at the Liushenyu shaft on Friday, is reported to be one of the country’s worst mining disasters in nearly two decades.

Authorities stated that 247 workers were underground at the time of the blast, with at least 82 fatalities confirmed so far.
