Maldives and India pledge closer cooperation on shared priorities

Maldives and India have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations following high-level discussions held in New Delhi.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Iruthisham Adam, met with India’s Minister of External Affairs, S. Jaishankar, as part of her ongoing official visit to India.

During the meeting, the two ministers reviewed the longstanding partnership between the Maldives and India and discussed avenues for further cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Both sides reiterated their commitment to maintaining close collaboration at both bilateral and multilateral levels.

Minister Iruthisham acknowledged the strong cooperation shared between the two countries and expressed appreciation for India’s continued support towards the Maldives’ socio-economic development.

She highlighted the significance of projects being implemented through Indian grant assistance and line of credit arrangements, noting their contribution to the country’s development efforts.

The visit marks Minister Iruthisham’s first official trip to India since assuming office and comes at the invitation of Minister Jaishankar.

The Maldives and India have maintained close diplomatic and development ties over the years, with cooperation spanning infrastructure, healthcare, connectivity, trade, and capacity-building initiatives.
