Former Chairperson of the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Fayyaz Ismail, has urged key political figures to set aside their differences and unite in what he described as a critical moment for the country.

In a post shared on X, Fayyaz called on former Presidents Mohamed Nasheed, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to come together in opposition to the administration of President Mohamed Muizzu.

Fayyaz alleged that President Muizzu had acted in violation of his presidential oath, further claiming that recent decisions by the administration reflect a lack of sound judgment.

Emphasising the need to prioritise national interests over political divisions, Fayyaz called on both leaders and the public to unite, including through nationwide protests, to express dissatisfaction with the current government.

He reiterated that collaboration among the three former presidents is essential to “safeguard the nation,” adding that he and his supporters are prepared to work alongside them without hesitation.

We are ready to work alongside the three former presidents without any hesitation

In addition, Fayyaz called for the immediate release of journalists from "Adhadhu" news, while also urging independent institutions and members of the judiciary to act impartially and fulfil their responsibilities in addressing ongoing concerns.
