Sri Lanka hosts President Dr. Muizzu with full state honours

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu was formally received with a ceremonial state welcome in Colombo, Sri Lanka, during his ongoing official visit to the country.

The ceremony took place at the Presidential Secretariat and was attended by Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who welcomed President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed.

As part of the honours accorded, President Muizzu received a 21-gun salute and inspected a guard of honour.

The event concluded with the national anthems of both the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Senior officials from the Sri Lankan government and members of the Maldivian delegation were also present at the ceremony.

Following the formal welcome, high-level bilateral talks between the two countries commenced, focusing on further strengthening cooperation and diplomatic ties.

Key areas of discussion included education, vocational training, economic development, governance, heritage preservation, and collaboration in international forums.

As part of his official programme, President Muizzu is also scheduled to attend the Maldives–Sri Lanka Business Forum and engage with members of the Maldivian community residing in Sri Lanka.

According to the President’s Office, the visit is expected to advance discussions on shared priorities and reinforce the longstanding bilateral relationship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
