Three candidates to contest MDP Chairperson race
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced the candidates contesting in its upcoming election for the post of Chairperson.
The announcement was made via the party’s official X account, confirming that three candidates have met the eligibility requirements and successfully submitted their nominations for the election scheduled to be held on the 12th of next month.
The candidates contesting in the race are
- Mohamed Nasheed of G. Kenereege, Malé
- Ibrahim Mohamed (Waadu) of Hudhuvilla, L. Fonadhoo
- Meekail Ahmed Naseem of G. Barosa, Malé.
Former Member of Parliament Alhan Fahmy, who had initially declared his candidacy, has since withdrawn from the race.
Among the contenders, Ibrahim Mohamed (Waadu) previously contested in the Fonadhoo Island Council presidential election during the current term, though his bid was unsuccessful.
According to the party’s Elections Committee, all nomination papers submitted by the candidates have been reviewed and deemed eligible.
The election is expected to determine the party’s next Chairperson as it prepares for upcoming political activities.
