President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has arrived in Sri Lanka on a State Visit, where he was warmly received alongside First Lady Sajidha Mohamed.

The President arrived earlier this evening at the invitation of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The visit is scheduled to conclude on 6 May.

Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, President Muizzu was accorded a ceremonial welcome by Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya.

The reception featured a cultural performance by a local troupe, followed by the signing of the official guest book.

During the visit, President Muizzu is expected to engage in high-level discussions with senior Sri Lankan officials, aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Talks will focus on expanding cooperation across key sectors, including education, vocational training, economic development, governance, as well as collaboration in heritage and international affairs.

Both leaders are also expected to witness the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), aimed at enhancing cooperation across multiple areas of mutual interest.

As part of his official engagements, President Muizzu will participate in the Maldives–Sri Lanka Business Forum and meet members of the Maldivian community residing in Sri Lanka.

According to the President’s Office, the visit will facilitate dialogue on shared priorities while reinforcing the longstanding ties between the two countries.

The visit follows President Dissanayake’s State Visit to the Maldives from 28 to 30 July 2025, which marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka were established on 26 July 1965 and have since continued to expand across multiple sectors.
