Maldives Envoy to Sweden formalises appointment with royal credential ceremony

The Maldives’ newly appointed Non-Resident Ambassador to the Kingdom of Sweden, Aishath Shaan Shakir, has formally presented her Letters of Credence to King of Sweden, Carl XVI Gustaf.

The credential presentation ceremony was held on April 16, 2026, at the Royal Palace Stockholm.

During the subsequent audience, Ambassador Aishath Shaan conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, along with those of the Maldivian government and people, to the King, as well as to the government and citizens of Sweden.

She also highlighted the longstanding friendship between the Maldives and Sweden, expressing her commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation across areas of mutual interest during her tenure.

As part of her official visit to Stockholm, Ambassador Aishath Shaan held meetings with senior officials from Sweden’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs, where discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations and expanding collaboration within multilateral platforms.

Ambassador was accompanied by Second Secretary Saifulla Waleed from the Embassy of the Maldives in Berlin.

In addition to her responsibilities in Sweden, Ambassador Shaan also serves as the Maldives’ Ambassador to Germany, and as Non-Resident Ambassador to both Norway and Finland.
