The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has announced plans to conduct a survey examining remittance patterns among foreign workers in the Maldives.

In a statement, the central bank said the survey will focus on expatriate workers residing in the Malé area and will be carried out across multiple locations within the Greater Malé region.

According to the MMA, the initiative aims to collect key data required for compiling the country’s Balance of Payments statistics.

The survey will gather information on the methods used by foreign workers to send money abroad, as well as the frequency and volume of these remittances.

The authority has urged foreign workers to take part in the survey, highlighting the importance of their participation in strengthening national economic data.

The MMA also assured that no personal identifiers including names, passport numbers, or work permit details will be collected.

It further emphasized that all information obtained will be treated with strict confidentiality.
