President Mohamed Muizzu has cast his vote in the ongoing nationwide electoral process, urging citizens to actively participate and exercise their constitutional rights.

The President voted at the ballot box designated for the Maafannu South constituency, located at Thaajuddeen School, as polling continues for the Local Council Elections, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) Elections, and a national referendum on holding Presidential and Parliamentary elections simultaneously.

Speaking to the media after casting his ballot, President Muizzu underscored the importance of public participation, describing voting as a fundamental legal right.

He called on all eligible citizens to take part in the electoral process and fulfil their civic responsibility.

Polling began at 8:00 a.m. and is set to conclude at 4:00 p.m., according to the Elections Commission.

Officials have stated that while no new voters will be allowed to join queues after the closing time, those already in line will still be permitted to vote.

Authorities have outlined clear guidelines for voters. Individuals must present a valid identification document either a National Identity Card, passport, passport card, or driving licence when casting their ballots.

Voters are also only allowed to bring a standard blue-ink pen into polling stations.

Strict regulations prohibit the entry of handbags, files, and any electronic devices capable of recording audio or video, in order to maintain the integrity and confidentiality of the voting process.

A total of 294,876 eligible voters are taking part in today’s elections, including 144,506 women and 150,370 men.

Across the country, 588 ballot boxes have been established, with the Maldives Police Service deployed to ensure security and a smooth polling process.
